The Eastern townships at home

27 March 2020

Due to the fact some of you are confined to your homes and many activities have been temporarily put on hold, we’ve come up with a variety of ways you can still enjoy the Eastern Townships. Here’s what is on offer.

Tuck into yummy restaurant food – but at home!

Several restaurants around the region have adapted to the current situation by offering a food delivery or take-out service. They are listed here.

Other delivery services…

Other types of enterprises are also offering delivery services – pastry shops, bakeries, delis, soap manufacturers….Though some of the goods they sell might not be classed as « essential » they go a long way towards lifting your mood and providing comfort in challenging times. Donuts anybody?

Granby Zoo’s educational programming

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (11am), the Granby Zoo will be live-streaming educational content through its Facebook and Instagram accounts. Your kids will be able to discover all sorts of fascinating facts about animals, such as the royal python (a snake native to West and Central Africa) and the curious mammals that lay eggs (instead of giving birth to live young).

Beam in the stars – right into your living room!

ASTROlab is a popular science and astrology museum in Mont Megantic National Park. The building is closed right now but if you take a look at ASTROlab’s Facebook page, you’ll find daily videos of what is unfolding around the Universe…..Your kids will love them. So will you!

Discover our local authors

Did you know that Mélanie Noël has fallen in love with the fromagerie La Station (a family-run farm that makes fine cheeses), and that one of David Goudreault’s favourite actitivities is to walk though the Bois Beckett woods, that Véronique Grenier is a sucker for the delicious pastries at Les vraies richesses bakery and that Amélie Dubois loves stargazing at the ASTROLab in Mont Megantic National Park? To learn all about our local writers and their passions, check out our serie The Townships in Five Senses.

Sample the Townships’ maple products

For those of you with a sweet tooth and who love the taste of maple, here are some mouthwatering suggestions. Alcoholic beverages, rillettes, spices, salad dressings, and desserts, are all available at gourmet food stores and boutiques in places that are part of the Cœur villageois des Cantons network. You’ll also find maple products in grocery stores and online.

The entire team at Tourism Eastern Townships wishes you strength and courage to cope with this challenging and unusual situation. We’re well aware than many of you are going through difficult times. Please know that we are thinking of you.
