Afternoon tea finds its origins in the 18th century, thanks to Anna, Duchess of Bedford and a close friend of Queen Victoria. To bridge the gap between lunch and the typically late dinner, she began hosting gatherings with tea, cakes, and small sandwiches, sharing them with friends at Woburn Abbey. Back in London, Anna soon popularized this friendly tradition among the British high society, who quickly embraced the idea of “tea and a stroll.”

Over the years, afternoon tea became widely accessible, and by the 19th century, it had evolved into a cherished daily ritual in England — the famous Five O’Clock Tea — bringing people from all walks of life together for this sweet moment of sharing.
