Bromont Olympic Equestrian ParkA major hub for equestrian sport in Quebec, the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park welcomes riders from around the world every year.
Many equestrian events take place on this site annually, including National Bromont, International Bromont, the Spring and Fall Dressage Classics, Caballista, and many more.
Visit the Events page for full details on upcoming competitions.
Please note: riding at Bromont is not available unless you bring your own horse. If you’d like to go horseback riding, check with equestrian centres in the region.
THE EARLY YEARS
In the early 1970s, as Mayor Jean Drapeau campaigned to bring the Olympic Games to Montreal, Roland Désourdy, one of the founders of the City of Bromont, supported the initiative and proposed the Park as the venue for the equestrian events of the 21st Olympic Games.
THE 1976 OLYMPIC GAMES ARRIVE IN BROMONT
The site received official accreditation in 1974, leading to the construction of facilities that would welcome athletes in 1976 for the equestrian events of the modern pentathlon. Princess Anne made history as the first member of the British royal family to compete, taking part in the eventing riding portion on the Queen’s horse, Goodwill. Despite a fall during the cross-country phase, she completed the competition. Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and other members of the royal family were in Bromont to support her, making it a memorable visit for the region.
INTERNATIONAL REACH
After the Montreal Olympics, the Park continued to build its international reputation by hosting top-level competitions, including International Bromont, held under the direction of Roger Deslauriers.
Thanks to the dedication of Mr. Deslauriers and his team, the Park has continued to evolve and has become a premier venue for competition. It is a major asset for Quebec’s next generation of athletes, allowing local riders to compete alongside the sport’s elite on world-class facilities.

RCMP MUSICAL RIDE
In June 2025, the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park was proud to present the RCMP Musical Ride, a symbol of tradition, honour, and pride recognized across Canada and around the world. The program featured a memorable performance by 32 mounted police officers, executing spectacular formations set to music.
THE PARK TODAY
This Olympic venue includes a permanent 80-stall barn, numerous training rings, three large competition arenas, and an extensive steeplechase track. Major upgrades were completed in 2010, and the Shefford County Agricultural Society is planning additional improvements over the coming years.
BROMONT, OLYMPIC LAND: 50TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2026
The year 2026 marks the Park’s 50th anniversary—an ideal opportunity to discover (or rediscover) these Olympic-calibre facilities. Stay tuned for activities that will be organized to celebrate this historic milestone!

Mon voyage en Amérique at the Espace culturel St. JohnMon voyage en Amérique, a staged reading with Pascale Montpetit and Kim Yaroshevskaya at the Espace culturel St. John on November 13, 2026.
In 2017, Kim Yaroshevskaya published a charming book in which she recounts her “journey to America.” A voyage through troubled waters, perhaps—but one that is funny, unusual, and full of surprises. It begins when, at the age of ten, she leaves her native Moscow to join her maternal grandparents in New York. The adventure takes an unexpected turn and ultimately ends at her aunt’s home in Montreal, where Kim would put down roots.
Passionate about the arts—music, dance, and theatre—she drew on a childhood memory to create the character Fanfreluche. From that same childhood, she shares the tenderness of her paternal grandmother, as well as dramatic moments lived under Stalin’s repressive communist regime. She also speaks of her love of theatre—she performed Chekhov, Ionesco, and Pirandello on some of the country’s leading stages.
It was Kim who chose to ask Pascale Montpetit to perform My Journey to America in her place, making it clear that she could entrust this story to no one else but an actress she deeply admired.
Text: Kim Yaroshevskaya (Éditions du Boréal, 2017)
Staged reading: Kim Yaroshevskaya and Pascale Montpetit
Performed by: Pascale Montpetit

MORE INFORMATION
Pascale Montpetit
A graduate of the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal (1985), Pascale Montpetit has enjoyed a wide-ranging career in radio, television, film, and theatre, spanning both classical repertoire and contemporary creation. She has also taught at the National Theatre School of Canada and led workshops for the Union des écrivaines et des écrivains québécois.
Kim Yaroshevskaya (1923-2025)
A pioneer of children’s programming in Quebec, Kim Yaroshevskaya left a lasting mark on generations with the character Fanfreluche, created in 1954 at Théâtre Le Grenier and later brought to Radio-Canada television (Fafouin, La Boîte à surprise, and Fanfreluche). From 1968 to 1971, she not only played the role but also wrote and scripted every episode of Fanfreluche. A versatile actor, she performed in theatre, television, and film, including La femme de l’hôtel, Le Matou, Anne Trister, and Le sexe des étoiles. She received the Order of Canada (1991), was named a Companion of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec (2017), and a Commander of the Ordre de Montréal (2023).

ABOUT THE ESPACE CULTUREL ST. JOHN
Experience this performance in a truly unique venue: the St. John, a former Anglican church built between 1882 and 1885, now transformed into a space dedicated to arts and culture. A true architectural gem, this intimate hall is located on Shefford Street in the heart of Old-Bromont. This lively area features beautiful heritage buildings housing cozy cafés, fine restaurants, and one-of-a-kind boutiques—making it the perfect place to extend your cultural outing.
Major-Moran « Bunker à ciel ouvert » at the St. JohnThey are in love, parents, and creative partners. She, Catherine Major, composes the music; he, Jeff Moran, writes the lyrics. For the first time, with this project, they’re putting everything that lives inside them into one album and one show, titled Open-Air Bunker, to be presented at the Espace culturel St. John on October 17, 2026.
A shared life, set down in a musical project that bears their unmistakable signature—an love that has been unfolding for more than fifteen years. And the perspective they share as they look at the world together.
Over the years, they’ve brought tender, profound songs to life not only for themselves, but also for performers such as Diane Dufresne, Luce Dufault, and Marie-Denise Pelletier. The children have grown up, and now the time has come to start creating for themselves again—and to get back on the road.
Joined by the three musicians who helped them craft the album, they will perform the work live as a duo and revisit a few classics from their respective repertoires.
A one-of-a-kind project you’ll be able to dive into with the Major-Moran duo.

Stéphanie Boulay at the Espace culturel St. JohnEst-ce que quelqu’un me voit? That’s the title of the second solo album that Stéphanie Boulay will present at the Espace culturel St. John on September 12!
With a light heart and more confidence in herself than ever, Stéphanie Boulay will take the stage again—solo, yes, but surrounded by her cherished friends (Charles Blondeau on drums, Camille Gélinas on keys, and Alexandre Martel on guitar and bass)—to perform her second solo album, Est-ce que quelqu’un me voit?
She’s driven by an insatiable desire for agency, freedom, and to carve out her own path—even if it means starting from scratch—to meet an audience that likely doesn’t know her yet, or at least not like this.
Gifted at creating, night after night, moments that have never existed before and will never exist in quite the same way again—making people laugh while opening up with self-deprecation and bold honesty—Stéphanie will share brand-new songs she spent two years drawing out from within herself, with the help of producer Alexandre Martel. These songs are raw, intimate, and straightforward, but also free, messy, radiant, and danceable.

MORE ABOUT AFTERNOON TEA
Afternoon tea finds its origins in the 18th century, thanks to Anna, Duchess of Bedford and a close friend of Queen Victoria. To bridge the gap between lunch and the typically late dinner, she began hosting gatherings with tea, cakes, and small sandwiches, sharing them with friends at Woburn Abbey. Back in London, Anna soon popularized this friendly tradition among the British high society, who quickly embraced the idea of “tea and a stroll.”
Over the years, afternoon tea became widely accessible, and by the 19th century, it had evolved into a cherished daily ritual in England — the famous Five O’Clock Tea — bringing people from all walks of life together for this sweet moment of sharing.

The Brome-Missisquoi Prohibition Heritage TrailStep into the history of Prohibition with this historical tour spanning over 130 km!
This heritage tour will transport you to the early 1920s, when Prohibition spread across Canada and the United States.
In this desert scattered with “dry states,” Quebec became a sanctuary where the purchase and consumption of alcohol remained entirely legal. A legal oasis, from 1919 to 1923, the Brome-Missisquoi region briefly became a major hub for alcohol smuggling, where bootleggers, speakeasies, brothels, and whiskey lounges thrived.
10-STEP TOUR
This self-guided audio tour features 10 stops. As you travel from one stop to the next, you will be accompanied by the colorful voice of Alfred Carpentier, a fictional bootlegger, and Queen Lil, the madam of “The Palace of Sin” located right between Canada and the United States.
Interpretive panels are located at each stop, and each is equipped with a QR code linking the audio tour.
GRAPHIC NOVEL
Want to learn more about this fascinating era? Pick up the graphic novel Queen Lil & les femmes de la prohibition by illustrator and author Stéphane Lemardelé and historian Laurent Busseau, available in french in bookstores and at our tourist office.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND ON THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT
At the end of the 19th century, temperance movements emerged in the United States, Canada, and even here in Quebec. The idea was simple: limit or even completely prevent the sale and consumption of alcohol.
In the early 1920s, pressures on the Quebec government from temperance movements and the clergy increased: there was a push to adopt Prohibition across the province. Elsewhere in Canada, this trend was already becoming more prominent.
Prohibition was knocking at Quebec’s door, and in 1919, Premier Lomer Gouin banned all alcoholic beverages across the province. However, in a referendum, Quebecers voted overwhelmingly to exclude beer, cider, and light wine from the law. As a result, they could still consume products containing less than 2.5% alcohol.
This law was in effect for only two years. Unlike other provinces, the new government under Louis-Alexandre Taschereau adopted a particularly original stance, leading to the creation of the Liquor Commission. Rather than shutting down alcohol access entirely, the state took control and ensured alcohol supply. This was the first system of government control over alcohol in North America, which eventually became the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ).
