If you haven’t been yet, now’s the perfect time to start a new tradition! The Old Bromont Public Market: A Weekly Celebration of Local Flavours
Every week, the Old Bromont Public Market brings together the best that the Eastern Townships has to offer — fresh vegetables, artisan cheeses, local honey, homemade preserves, flowers, pastries, and much more. For visitors and residents alike, this weekly market is far more than a shopping stop: it’s a genuine community gathering place where local producers, artisans and food lovers connect over a shared passion for quality and authenticity.
A Market Rooted in Local Tradition
The Bromont public market is part of a long-standing tradition in Quebec’s rural communities — the weekly gathering where farmers and artisans bring their work directly to the people who appreciate it most. At the Old Bromont Public Market, you’ll find vendors who take pride in their craft, from the farmer who wakes before dawn to harvest the freshest vegetables of the week to the cheesemaker who has spent years perfecting the aging process of a local fromage.
This direct connection between producer and consumer is what gives the market its energy and authenticity. When you buy a bunch of carrots or a jar of artisanal jam at the Bromont market, you’re not just purchasing food — you’re supporting a local family, a small business, and an agricultural tradition that is deeply tied to the identity of the Eastern Townships.
What to Expect at the Market
The stalls at the Old Bromont Public Market change slightly with the seasons, reflecting the rhythm of local agriculture. In summer, expect an abundance of fresh vegetables — tomatoes, zucchini, sweet corn, herbs, peppers and greens — alongside seasonal fruits including strawberries, blueberries and raspberries from nearby farms. As the season progresses into autumn, the market shifts toward squash, apples, root vegetables, cider and preserves.
Throughout the year, a solid core of artisan vendors remains present week after week: local cheese producers from the region, bakers offering fresh breads and pastries, honey producers, maple products, homemade jams, pickles and condiments. Many of these producers can be found at no other retail outlet — the market is the only place to access their products, which makes every visit a unique opportunity.
Beyond food, the market often features artisan craftspeople offering handmade goods: ceramics, candles, jewelry, textiles and woodwork. These local artisans are an integral part of the market’s identity and add a festive, culturally rich dimension to the weekly gathering.
The Perfect Addition to Your Bromont Weekend
If you’re planning a weekend getaway to Bromont, timing your visit to coincide with the Old Bromont Public Market is a smart idea. Start your Saturday or Sunday morning with a stroll through the market stalls, a freshly baked pastry in hand and a warm coffee from a local vendor. Pick up some cheeses, cold cuts or fresh bread to put together a picnic for your afternoon hike or cycling trip.
The market’s location in the heart of Bromont makes it an easy and enjoyable first stop before heading out to explore the region’s outdoor trails, vineyards or mountain activities. It’s also a wonderful way to meet local residents, get insider tips on the best spots in town, and bring home a taste of the Eastern Townships when your trip comes to an end.
Supporting Local Means More Than You Think
Choosing to shop at the Old Bromont Public Market rather than a large grocery chain has a meaningful impact on the local economy. Every purchase made at the market keeps money circulating within the community, supports sustainable and often organic farming practices, and encourages the preservation of the artisan traditions that make the Eastern Townships one of Quebec’s most distinctive and vibrant agricultural regions.
Whether you’re a regular visitor to Bromont or discovering the Eastern Townships for the first time, the Old Bromont Public Market deserves a prominent spot in your travel plans. Come early for the best selection, come curious, and come hungry — the market will take care of the rest.
